I am resigned to the fact that some people are just plain idiots, and that’s the way that it’s always going to be—which wouldn’t be so much of a problem if they were to recognise themselves as such and withdraw any input that they would otherwise have into… well, anything.
For me, IMDb served as a real eye-opener into this fact. For every well-written and researched review that has been submitted for any particular film, there are ten reviews that have been given very little thought, and:
express only the simplest of qualms or praise and give the film a moderate score that displays neither admiration nor dislike for the subject of their review, tainting what is otherwise a good indication of a film’s merit; or
express what, to those of us with two brain cells to rub together, is the complete opposite of what should be said about the film.
